Phoenix put it to em’

After two weeks the Stampede are 8-5-3. The Stampede played the Phoenix nights with a strong start. The team came out a bit flat against a good Phoenix team. They lost Friday 4-2, Saturday 6-2 and Sunday another lost 5-4. Coach Gill said “The team had some defensive breakdowns in front of their goalie” which cost them the games. He felt Sunday was their best game of the series. They had 3 back to back 5 on 3s after being up by 2 which was the turning point of the game. Execution is lacking on the teams part. Coach Gill feel if they would have played their game the way they play it and actually executed their plays like they practice they would have been more successful.

Success around the corner

The upcoming weeks will allow for improvement. Coach Gill says “We need to stay hungry.” The team has some new players coming in to fill some of the team’s deficiencies. He hopes that the new players will turn up the heat for the old guys. He wants day to day competition on the ice to be top notch. The two new players are Brayden Smith and Leon Slyder. They also have two European players coming in a couple, One from Sweden and one from Slovak. The Sweden player is the number one scorer in Sweden right now so this will be a huge plus for the team.  Coach Gill said “A loss teaches a lot of things. Teaches you who has character and who doesn’t, who has heart and who doesn’t and where a team goes. Will they fold or will they battle?” After Tuesdays practice Coach Gill said that the boys focus was much improved and that he feels good about their upcoming games.
