Festival brings Japanese culture to Laramie

The Festival of Japan was held at the Laramie High School on Saturday, October 5, 2013.  This well-attended event featured a variety of Japanese foods, hands-on exhibits, and demonstrations.  This is the seventh year of the Japan-America Society of Wyoming has held the event.

Demos, workshops entertain

Calligraphy, Origami, and headband stations were set along one side of the room for children and adults to watch or to try out for themselves.  Attendees sampled traditional Japanese food while they watched local groups demonstrate Kendo, Karate, and Ikebana.

Taiko drumming highlight of event

The highlight of the festival was the Taiko performance by Boulder Taiko Hibiki.  The afternoon ended with Taiko workshops for the adults and the kids, and a final performance by Boulder Taiko Hibiki.  Click on the picture below to view a slideshow of this entertaining event!
