Frontier Mall History

24 Nov

What’s that?  You want to know the history about Frontier Mall in Cheyenne, Wyoming?  Well, that sounds kind of tricky to get information about, but I’m up for the task.

Background information that you might enjoy
Frontier Mall is located on Dell Range Boulevard in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and is the second biggest mall in Wyoming (The other two malls, in the order of size, are White Mountain Mall in Rock Springs, and Eastridge Mall in Casper).  Frontier Mall opened in 1981 with the anchors Joslin’s, JCPenney, and Sears.

There was tragedy in the mall’s history
A 44-year-old man went into the K B Toys (a defunct toy store that is now part of Shoe Carnival) and shot his wife when she was working.  This passed our stat’s anti stalking legislation.  Another tragedy in the mall’s history is that a small plane that was trying to land at the Cheyenne Regional Airport crash landed in the mall’s parking lot and hit the movie theater’s sign.  Flames went through the parking lot and Dell Range.  This accident killed the pilot.

Now is the time to talk about an anchor, Joslin’s(or Dillard’s)
Dillard’s opened its doors in the mall in 1997, and in 1998 Joslin’s was bought by Dillard’s.  This caused Frontier Mall to have two Dillard’s, Dillard’s Men and Home in the old Joslin’s and the Dillard’s Women is  in the new building.
