Toning it Down in Rising Temperatures

4 Nov

Working out with Zumba is not for everybody, another option that is discussed today is Hot Yoga. Hot Yoga provides the toning of regular Yoga yet with the temperatures high the sweat starts to drip.

History

Bikram Choudhury is the renounced Hatha Yoga Master who developed Bikram Yoga also known as Hot Yoga. He started when he was four years old learning basic yoga. As he grew up he was involved in several Competitions where he was undefeatable in weightlifting and competing in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. Later he was injured while weightlifting, doctors predicted he would never be able to walk again. After six months of yoga therapy he made a total recovery on his knee. That’s when he created and started teaching Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga, as a healing regime.

Benefits of Hot Yoga

Although Hot Yoga is good as a workout it contains many health benefits as well. Problems of alignment, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, insomnia, high and low blood pressure, and so many other medical problems have shown much improvement for so many with regular practice (Bikram).Below I have listed how Hot Yoga improves these problems.

  • Works every organ, gland, nerve, tendon, ligament and muscle in the whole body every Bikram Yoga session
  • Expands your capacity to breathe deeply and fully
  • Prevents injury and may prevent or improve chronic illness
  • Promotes better sleep, you may even need to sleep less
  • Fabulous body toning effects
  • Weight loss or gain depending on your body’s needs
  • Improvement in posture and body awareness
  • Improve the healing and regenerative powers of your body
  • Improvement in T-cell function and your immune system
  • Improvement in your lymphatic system
  • Lengthening and strengthening of muscles
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improvement in peripheral circulation
  • Improvement in metabolism / digestion

Benefits of Heating

Classes are held in a heated room. The warm room allows for greater flexibility, it minimizes muscle strain, lactic acid build up and reduces the chance of injury, allows for greater cleansing of the body and helps build tremendous stamina and endurance. Also with the heat comes sweat which in turns means the body is melting away fat. You’re losing weight.
