Keeping up Holiday Fitness

One of the biggest pitfalls during the holidays is the food! I am talking about the awesome turkey and mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, fudge, and the pies. Of course we cannot forget about the pies like pecan, pumpkin and apple. As you can probably tell I love to eat, which makes it that much harder for me to keep up with my fitness goals during the holidays.

Your eyes are bigger than your stomach

Everyone wants to sample all of the foods that were brought over for the family meals, so you eat more than you should.
Many people think that they should skip breakfast and they can load up their plate at dinner time and gorge themselves. It has been shown that skipping meals can cause headaches, irritability and tired, ruining your day. It can also cause you to eat way more than you would normally.

Eat Your Vegetables!

Fiber is you’re ally during the massive meals during the holidays. Fruit and vegetables add mass to your stomach and help you fill fuller faster. You also need to eat protien to help cut down on the cravings that can cause you to overindulge.


If you drink alcohol during the holidays make sure to drink lots of water. Dehydration can feel like hunger and cause you to eat more calories than you would normally. Not only does it help you feel fuller but it also helps with your digestion.

Pace Yourself

Eat slowly! It takes time for your brain to realize that you are getting full so relax. Chew your food slowly and enjoy the flavors. This is one of the easiest ways to save calories during the holidays.

In the end it just comes down you and your plate. If you eat more than you intend, it translates into more work in the gym down the road, which should be your biggest motivator. Remember, the holidays are for fun and family, so have fun!
