Not just a pretty face

13 Sep

Many people think that cheer is not a sport, however just a pretty face in a cute outfit. Cheerleaders at Laramie County Community College probable wish cheering was that easy. There is many concepts are tasks a cheerleader must balance with the harsh tie downs they have to school work.

Cheerleaders don’t just go to the games and cheer on the crowds, there is a lot more work that goes into it. For example, while trying to  balance out overwhelming school work, they must attend every practice and game. If a member of the team neglects to inform a coach that they will be gone, it results in an unexcused absence. Even if there is an injury all members must be dressed out and present.

Did you know that the cheerleaders must maintain a grade point average of at lease 2.0?  Between practices and games spirit squad members must attend study hours every week. 20 Hours of community service is also mandatory  for the scholarship cheer squad members receive.

Outside Life

As you can probably figure, it is probably difficult to juggle school, practice, games, study hours, and homework with the ‘college party life”. However, Laramie County Community College athletics have a zero alcohol and drug policy. As result, if any evidence is found of these acts, there would be serious consequences.

When it comes down to it, there is a lot more than goes into being apart of an athletic team such as the cheer squad other than a pretty face and a cute outfit.
