LCCC Students share holiday tech wish list

24 Nov

So you’re a parent trying to come up with a cool high-tech gift idea for your excelling student at LCCC. Or maybe you’re the student wondering what practical but cool tech gifts you can add to your holiday wish list. Either way, you’re in the right place.

Here is a list gathered from asking around LCCC for what cool tech gifts people would like to receive this holiday season that would be useful to them as students.

iPad – Not surprising that this was on the top of most people’s lists. Now that the iPad is local, expect to see quite a few out in the Wyoming wild after this holiday season.  iPads are available at the Verizon Wireless store and Target near the Frontier Mall.

Laptop/Computer – This one is pretty standard on every student’s holiday list. At the Office Depot on Del Range, until the 27th, there’s a sale on a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5048 for $379.99. With 3GB RAM, a Dual-Core processor, and Windows 7 Home Premium, this is a pretty good deal.

Droid – At first this may seem like more of a “want” than something that can be used in a classroom setting, but believe it or not, a good smart phone could take the place of most of the other things on this list including, computing, organizing, e-book reading, voice recording, data storage and more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops – You’re probably asking how this fits in. Students have down time, and video games are a cheap, trouble free way to spend that down time and raise moral. Though, chances are, many already have this game.

Kindle – With many classroom books being offered on the kindle, this one is a no brainer. You can find Kindle’s at Target.

Smart Pen – A paper-based smart pen that’s changed how students take notes. This thing is flat out cool, and on sale at our local Target for $99.99 until the end of this month.

Here’s a few things that didn’t make the list, but could make great stocking stuffers: Digital voice Recorder, data storage(flash drive, portable hard drive), and if nothing else, a gift card is always a safe bet.

Is there something you feel should have been on here? Leave a comment and let us know.

Stay tuned to this blog for a more in-depth look at some of the things on this list.
