Riding for a cause

19 Oct

Every year, Laramie County Community College hosts the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo. This has become an annual event raising funds for the Shawn Dubie Memorial Scholarship. http://tinyurl.com/Shawn-Dubie

Who is Shawn Dubie?
Shawn Dubie was a LCCC bareback bronc rider when he was competing in the Greeley Independence Stampede in 1988. Shawn was thrown from the horse and kicked. He died one year later at the age of 21 when he never awoke from a coma. http://tinyurl.com/Shawn-Dubie-Scholarship-Rodeo

How we celebrate
At LCCC, our riders along with other schools compete over 3 days for buckles and awards while competing in saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, barrel racing, goat tying, steer wrestling, and team roping. During the three days, proceeds raised go to the scholarship program that goes to one eligible student. This year, freshman Kody Ayers, a bull rider from Tonashet, Washington took home that honor.

When and where
The event is held at LCCC’s rodeo arena every October.
